Governance Roles):Shabnam lectures in Initial Teacher Education for the primary teacher training programmes at Leeds Beckett University where her specialist areas are, Race, Diversity and Inclusion. She is a lead coach for the Centre for Race, Education and Decoloniality and supports schools in achieving their Antiracist School Award.
Shabnam is passionate about authenticity, equity, and empowerment and has been in primary education for 25 years, serving diverse communities as a class teacher, SENDCo, Head Teacher, Governor and Trustee. She is also an independent education consultant and runs DewDrop Education to share her expertise and support organisations.
Shabnam is a member of Disability Ed UK and is a founder member of BAME Ed Northwest, two organisations that seek to support educators from diverse backgrounds.

I have also worked in Norway, New Zealand and Hong Kong as a visiting professor. I am co-parent to three children. I have a deep commitment to education and extensive experience of teaching. My role as governor at Rushbrook Primary Academy is driven by the belief that all children deserve the best from their experiences of schooling.

Governance Roles):I am an environmental professional at the Sustainable Materials Innovation Hub, which is part of the Henry Royce Institute and University of Manchester with over a decade of experience advising businesses and governments on how to reduce their impacts and improve their actions in response to the climate crisis. I also volunteer with Climate Emergency Manchester to push for greater support and action to tackle the climate crisis at the community level, which is where my interests overlap as a governor with Rushbrook Primary Academy as a vital part of my local community.

Relevant Business Pecuniary interests (Inc. Governance Roles):Originally from Reading, I graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University in the nineties and made Manchester my hometown. I set up an independent Property rental agency in 2010 and have run that successfully for over a decade.
I am passionate about education and child development and ensuring that all children are given the same opportunities to learn and grow, regardless of background.
With one child in year 6 at Rushbrook, it has been brilliant to be involved with the governing body to support the school and its staff, as Rushbrook continues to develop and excel.

Governance Roles):I have worked at Rushbrook (formerly Gorton Mount Primary Academy) since 1999 and also undertook voluntary work at the school prior to that time. I have worked in a variety of roles at the school including Teaching Assistant, Learning Mentor and Attendance Officer and was once awarded the title of ‘Employee of the Year’. I am the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead and the safeguarding, protection and care of all our pupils is of paramount importance to me.  I am trained in and have delivered, Webster Stratton parenting courses to the parents of our pupils.
I am a resident of the local community and have 4 children and 5 grandchildren.
The Safeguarding Team at school work extremely hard to ensure every child’s right to feel safe, happy and valued is upheld.
